Fractures of the hand of very common. Sometimes a bone may be broken, but you will still be able to move your fingers. A break is the same thing as a fracture. There are different types of fractures, from simple to comminuted (many pieces). Some fractures require surgery to line them up and allow for better hand function. Others may be treated with casting alone.
These are fractures of the metacarpal bones. They are displaced, meaning they are not straight.
Placing metal pins in the bone help to align them. These pins stay in the hand for about 4-6 weeks, and then they are removed.
